Guest Blog – IDUG Barcelona 2013 Experience

Guest Geek Blogger – Arvind Clement, DB2 DBA, Tyche Consulting Ltd

Initially I was a bit sceptical about going away for a week to attend IDUG EMEA.  As usual I was feeling protective about my database servers and how they would manage without me but somehow everything fell into place.  The mentor program added a lot of weight to the decision making!

Having said that I must say what a week it was and thoroughly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t yet attended one. The reasons; first of all it turned out to be completely different from what I perceived it to be, I thought for 4 days I would be bombarded with a lot of theoretical information and probably after the first day of sessions I would start losing the will to live but it was completely the opposite!  Right from the first session they were very interesting and what kept me gripped was that almost all of the sessions were real world examples and problems.  Second it was a good opportunity to network, I met all the big stalwarts from the DB2 world and got to know them more personally.  I know if I run into any problems or need to reach out to the people who develop DB2 they are just an email away. It was a thoroughly memorable experience and I will definitely be going back.
Arvind attended IDUG EMEA 2013 with Triton Consulting as part of the IDUG mentor program.
